Collaborating Bodies/Partners for the implementation of this action are:

  1. Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Heraklion as the Implementing Agency of the project. The Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Heraklion is a public utility company created in 1983 with a non-profit character. Its purpose is the study, construction, maintenance, exploitation, management and operation of the water supply and sewerage networks, dirty and rainwater, as well as liquid waste treatment units of the Heraklion area. As far as water supply is concerned, the goal of the Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Heraklion is to definitively solve the city’s water supply problem by ensuring continuous flow in the networks and the existence of backup solutions. Its total staff amounts to 151 people of various specialties and highly specialized, due to many years of experience as well as their training in the context of the annual training seminars that are implemented.

The Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Heraklion will be the Operator of the project after its completion.

  1. Technical University of Crete, Laboratory of Industrial, Energy and Environmental Systems of the School of Production Engineering & Management. The members of the Laboratory, directed by Professor Spyridon Papaefthimiou, provide specialized knowledge in matters of water networks: fault-leakage diagnosis, real-time quality control, use of sensors and flow modeling for leak diagnosis, automatic control through smart recording devices, intelligent systems energy management, integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and combined techno-economic-environmental studies.
  2. Development Organization of Crete S.A. is the body with the administrative responsibility for managing water resources projects and networks for the entire region of Crete. The aim of the Organization, as the management body of the largest water infrastructure and hydro-irrigation networks in Crete, is to reduce the cost of water supply services to the inhabitants of the island, to improve the quality of the water supplied, but also to increase the quantity of water it can offer. The OAK ensures that the resources provided will be utilized to the maximum as it has technically adequate, efficient and well-functioning administrative structures.
